A lawfully armed jewellery retail store operator in San Bruno thwarted a smash-and-grab theft attempt by 5 males at his shop, authorities explained.

The incident transpired Friday all over 1:06 p.m. at Maaz Jewelers, which is located inside of the Tanforan Shopping mall, police claimed.

Authorities stated five males who appeared to be in their teenagers or early 20s approached the store and one of them entered with a crowbar.

Keep surveillance video clip demonstrates the suspect employing the crowbar to smash a jewellery screen case when the operator, Usman Bhatti, arrives up and tries to pull the suspect away.

Officers claimed the suspect then elevated the crowbar as if he was likely to hit the store operator.

That is when the Bhatti, who has a concealed carry allow, pulled out a gun and pointed it toward the suspect even though yelling for him to cease, police stated.

The suspect then ran out of the retail outlet when a 2nd suspect, who was part of the team and standing in the vicinity of the entrance of the retail outlet, pulled out a gun and pointed it at Bhatti.

Authorities claimed the store operator lifted his firearm once more and pointed it at the male with the gun.

The suspect ran towards the team and all the suspects fled toward a division keep where by they managed to getaway.

The retailer owner hardly ever fired his weapon for the duration of the incident and neither did the suspect who was armed with a gun.

“I’m not making an attempt to be a hero or a macho person..it just happened really swift and I experienced no preference,” Bhatti informed KTVU.
