Repairing Your Model Train Transformers

A common issue with model trains over time is the malfunctioning of a transformer. When trains sit for a long period of time without use they will go bad. So what do you do when this happens? You can either pay someone to fix yours or you can spend your hard earned money to buy another one. If neither of these choices appeal to you then maybe you should consider fixing it for yourself. It will only cost you a little bit of money and use a little patience as well. Soon you will be able to say that you are able to fix them yourself.

You will have to get a few supplies together before you get started. You will most likely need each of these in the course of your model railroading hobby anyway so it is a good idea to go ahead and put them aside just for that purpose. You will need some tweezers, a pair of wire strippers, spare wire of different gauges, some oxidation remover, screwdrivers, solder, and a soldering gun.

Once you have your tools you are ready to determine exactly what your transformer needs in the way of repair. Carefully plug in your transformer and see if you hear any noise coming from either it or your model train. If you can hear noise coming from the transformer and not the train then most likely the contacts on the track will need to be cleaned well.

Once you have done this try running your train once again. If it works then you will know that you have successfully solved your issue. SAFETY ISSUE: Do NOT handle the interior of the transformer unless it has been fully discharged. This can lead to sickness or even injury. The next step involves opening the case of your transformer and examining the interior. If you are an adolescent then get your parent to help you with this step.

If the transformer itself appears dead then you will need to unplug it and get inside the case. Take the appropriate screwdriver and carefully open the case being careful not to touch your screwdriver to any parts inside the transformer itself. While you are doing this you must make sure that you are well grounded just in case of accidental discharge.

Check for burnt, loose, frayed or missing wires. Also make sure there is no oxidation on them as well. Corrosion can be a huge factor in malfunctioning electronics. Any that have gone bad will need to be replaced. If any are just loose then you can use your soldering gun to reattach them.

Any oxidized wires can be removed safely with the soldering iron. You also need to make sure that you remove any extra solder from the wires. Once you have done this then you are ready to remove the oxidation. Dip the ends of the wires into your oxidation remover and let it dissolve the oxidation completely. Make sure that you allow them to air …

Parents Model Human Interaction!

I just had a great time bringing my five children to the dentist. It was a great time because multiple people complimented my children on their good behavior, and I had a great conversation with a complete stranger.

In this day and age of the Internet where everyone is always connected, wouldn't you agree that our children are missing out on some important stuff that we used to all just take for granted, like talking to people without electronics being involved?

The kids all did a great job at the dentist, and when we got safely back in the car for the ride home, my kids asked me why I was speaking to strangers again. I giggled because they thought it was weird that I would talk to someone I didn't already know. Furthermore, they also thought it was strange that I so easily participated in a conversation with a complete stranger that lasted over an hour.

I looked at my kids, in bemusement not fully understanding what was so odd about me talking to other people. To tell you the truth, I think it would be to humanity's benefit to once in a while put down our electronics or whatever else it is that is keeping us so busy, and take time to notice and converse with one another. There really are no strangers out there; just people who we haven't met yet.

I have to be honest with you though. Believe it or not, I too, at least initially, had my face buried in something at the dentist office, also. I was working on my next book and was not looking to talk to anyone. However, he said, "Hello" and the delightful conversation just took off from there.

Now, as my Granddaddy always said, "Go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Parents, don't be afraid to be a bit old fashion and show your kids how the whole human interaction thing It is done. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do …

How to Look Like a Male Fitness Model and Attract Women

The Male Fitness Model… More Attractive To Women Than The Bodybuilder Look

Bodybuilders are such a touchy bunch. There are probably a couple of guys experiencing “roid rage” right now! I know that most bulky guys look at male fitness models and think that they are wimpy. You see many bodybuilders are under the impression that everyone wants to be as big and strong as them. They see a guy who is lifting lighter weights and doing cardio as someone who isn’t as successful in the gym as them. They mistakenly believe that bigger muscles equates to being more attractive to women. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Male Fitness Models Are Built Like Hollywood Sex Symbols

How many male sex symbols are huge and buff? Do you think any of the current Hollywood sex symbols can bench press over 400 pounds? What about stars like Brad Pitt, Matthew McConaughey, Jamie Fox, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Daniel Craig (the new James Bond), etc. Women are attracted to men with average builds, but with great muscle tone. How many men who star in Soap Operas are huge and buff? The answer is that with very rare exceptions, it pays to have a lean muscle build… not a bulky bodybuilder type look.

Male Fitness Models Have To Workout Harder Than Bodybuilders

Lifting weights and bulking up is MUCH easier than burning body fat and getting lean. I don’t care how big you are… you know it’s true! To get big, you just lift with a high volume of lifts and progressively increase the weight over time. You don’t have to be on a strict diet and you don’t have to hit cardio hard. To get lean, you have to lift to maintain your muscle mass, you have to watch what you eat, and you have to hit cardio like a maniac. The reason you see very few guys in the gym with “six pack abs” is that getting lean is tough work.

A Simple Approach to Leaning Down if You Are Bulky

Getting that lean look is actually simple, but not easy. If you are kind of bulky right now and need to lean down you just need to do a few things:

1) Perform Intense Cardio At Least 4-5 Times Per Week for 30-45 Minutes

2) Multiply Your Body Weight by 12. The Number You Get Will Be The Total Maximum Amount Of Calories You Are Allowed To Eat Each Day… Aim for Less If Possible

3) Quit Obsessing Over Strength

4) Quit Obsessing Over Protein Consumption

5) When In Doubt, Cut Back on Lifting And Increase Cardio

6) You Will See “Six Pack Abs” When You Get Lean Enough. Don’t Go Overboard With Crunches and Ab Movements. Cardio is Your Ticket To a Six Pack.

Quit Trying To Impress Guys In The Gym… The Goal Is To Impress Women

When you are hitting cardio hard and limiting your calories, you won’t get as big of a pump as you …

Is Your Business Model Snuffing Out Your Message?

I often talk to coaches, consultants, freelancers, small business owners, authors, speakers … etc. who feel stuck.

Well, screw the label, that's not important. They're the "do their own thing, do something meaningful" kind of people.

They've done the professional training, bought the marketing program, and even built a business or two.

But they rarely go back to square one and question whether they have structured their business to amplify their vision and message.

Oh, you're certified as a "coach" – so there's what a coaching business model looks like: a 1: 1 program, a group program, an online course, and an info product. Or, a 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month package. The end.

When people are starting out, a business model is a godsend. It gives you something to build upon and the visibility of "where the money is coming from."

But as you evolve and refine your skills and message, it's easy to get on autopilot and take the business model as a given.

What used to work when you needed training wheels may not work now that you've figured out what the heck you're doing.

Have you revisited and validated your business model lately?

Is the suite of offerings in alignment with your message?

Are they giving you the best venue to serve your ideal clients?

Are the programs / products / services tapping into your strengths?

Are the creating the most value for your clients?

Are the formats of delivery amplifying your message … or are they snuffing out its essence?

When we try to squeeze our message into some predetermined format … due to habit, laziness, fear, unawareness, inertia, or good intention (because the gurus say so) … we may not be doing it justice.

Product-Centric vs. Client-Centric

If you start with a business model (which is essentially a collection of products, services, and pricing) instead of your message and its expression, you're putting the cart in front of the horse.

Leading with a business model is a product-centric mindset. It's an old-school approach and doesn't do well when we're evolving quickly as a society (think Kodak and film.)

Leading with an audience is a client / customer-centric mindset. It helps you stay relevant even when "the thing that people want" changes (think Netflix and entertainment.)

Leading with your message grounds your business in your Truth, connects you with the work you do, and anchors you in the community that you serve.

Have you asked your message what it wants to be when it grows up?

Are you connected with your message in such a way that you can let its expression come through without overthinking it or mucking it up with your ego?

Pop the bubble. Leave the echo chamber.

Don't limit your message to "what a _______ business is supposed to be like."

(If you keep digging, you may realize that your business isn't about ________. What if you're something else?)

The Police Promotional Oral Interview: Pieces of a Model Answer

A very effective way to develop a winning answer is to break it down into pieces. This not only makes it easier to remember, but also ensures that the content has appropriate depth. Such sweeping answers help to distinguish between the average and the awesome. The following is a model answer about ethics and it is broken down into five simple pieces.

THE HOOK :

(Grabs the panel's attention; a unique start to an answer)

"Ethics encompasses right and good behavior and as the foundation of our integrity, principles, and values, I personally view ethics as being a key component of police professionalism.

THE CORE :

(The main body of the answer; defines & describes the information needed)

Ethics are comprised of a combination of both personal and professional standards. These standards consist of morals, values, honesty, integrity, courage, principles, character, and honor. It's these standards or lack of them that allow officers, through their decisions and behavior, to be highly successful or to fail. A common byproduct of strong ethical standards is great leadership. As a supervisor, my ethical standards will be closely observed and modeled. My goal as a supervisor is to insure that through my standards, my actions are synonymous-integrated-with those of my organization and as a leader, will engender these same qualities and successes to those under my command.

ATTENTION PHRASE :

(Draws full focus of the panel to what you are about to say next)

As lieutenants, I'm sure you would agree that …

BRANCHING :

(Expands your answer; brings in collateral issues; represents seeing the bigger picture)

Supervisors who maintain and model strong ethics will serve to decrease mediocrity while increasing performance. Part of the value of my supervision will be in my ability to transform the concept of ethics into reality and in coaching my officers to make great decisions. By doing this, my actions will help to shield my officers from internal or external complaints, improve their professional image to public perception, and protect my organization from exposure to potential liability.

CLOSING :

(Prevents an abrupt stop; provides a smooth transition to the end of your answer)

Finally, having learned many lessons from the last fifteen years, perhaps one of the most difficult periods for law enforcement in recent history, ethics has never been as critical as it is today and will always be at the center of my leadership. "

This answer has 261 words and would take about 60-90 seconds to present. Compare this answer to your competitions, most of who usually begin and end their answer with only the core portion of the answer shown above. The difference, especially when delivered verbally, is like night and day. Test well !!

Papo Dilophosaurus Dinosaur Model Reviewed

Papo Dilophosaurus Dinosaur Model Reviewed

Papo, the France based manufacturer of figures and replicas have added a Dilophosaurus dinosaur model to their prehistoric animal model range and very good it is too. A member of the coelophysid group of Theropods, this lithe, agile hunter was probably the apex predator in early jurassic environments. Scientists have estimated that this carnivore could have reached lengths in excess of six meters. It may have weighed over five hundred kilograms, that's twice as heavy as an African lion ( Panthero leo ).

Almost a Quadrupedal Pose

Although most definitely a biped, Dilophosaurus did have relatively long arms. The arms were much longer than those of later Theropods. The Papo figure has been balanced on its hind legs but as the body is bent forwards the right hand with its three-fingered claws is also touching the ground. This is a more than acceptable stance for a dinosaur model and it permits the design team to keep the hind feet of their replica in proportion to the rest of the animal whilst still permitting it to balance.

Lots of Detail and Beautiful Painting

Papo have made sure that they include lots of fine detail. Individual scales can be picked out along the flanks and the patterning continues onto the belly, which is not found in cheaper dinosaur models. There is a row of triangular scales running from the top of the head down the slender neck and there is even a tiny, white-painted row of scales running down under the jaw. The famous double head crest of this dinosaur has been painted a vivid crimson color. Obviously, the artists at Papo believe that this thin crest served no defensive or aggressive role, but that it was probably used for visual communication amongst Dilophosaurs. The rest of the model is painted a dark tan color with flashes of blue set out in a stripe pattern across the legs, the flank and along the back.

To Scale with Other Replicas

The model measures around 14cm in length, but as the tail curls around the body, it is actually much bigger than that, measuring around 18 to 19 centimetres in length. As Dilophosaurus ( D. wetherilli ) is estimated to have reached lengths around six and a half meters, we estimate that this figure is in approximately 1:34 scale. Size wise it fits very well alongside two other Papo Jurassic dinosaur figures, the Allosaurus and the plant-eating Stegosaurus.

Details Around the Mouth

Unlike other predatory dinosaur models made by Papo, the jaw is not articulated, it does not open. However, this is more than made up for by the superb details that can be seen around the mouth. The distinctive curve in the premaxilla of this dinosaur is present and individual teeth have been skilfully painted – all credit to the production team.

This is an excellent dinosaur model, one that will prove popular with collectors and young dinosaur fans – highly recommended.

Tesla Model X: Simply Awesome and Sublime

Quality and performance have remained the better part of Tesla over the years. The latest edition is the ‘Model X’ that is considered to be the most capable, fastest and the safest sports utility vehicle. Being an uncompromised vehicle, it has many interesting and quite a few smart features. The expected price is set at 75,000 dollars respectively.

Description

1. Design and Safety:

The Model X is designed in such a manner that safety was kept as the main priority. The presence of floor-mounted battery keeps the gravitational force to the minimum that reduces the likelihood of a rollover. The battery structure is such that it strengthens the vehicle against any side impact intrusions. Since there is no gasoline engine, the big front trunk functions as a huge impact-absorbing feature.

The Model X is a smart car in the sense that it continuously scans the nearby roadway through radar, sonar systems, and the camera. This enables the driver to get real-time feedback to avoid collisions. If the speed is quite high, the vehicle is capable enough to apply brakes automatically at the time of an emergency.

The outside pollution, bacteria, and pollen are constantly filtered through a medical grade HEPA filter prior to the air circulating inside the cabin. There are three modes for adjusting the filter level that include a ‘bio-weapon defense’, ‘re-circulate inside air’ and ‘circulate the outside air’ respectively. Thus, a positive and clean pressure is created that protects the occupants inside.

2. Falcon Wings:

The Falcon Wing doors are special and unheard of before. They provide easy access to the second and third-row seats even if the car is parked in a tight space. Having only a foot of clearance on each side, the Falcon Wing doors articulate up smoothly. This enables the passengers to enter the cabin from the front and the rear side. Interestingly, the overhead and side opening is so big that even the parents can buckle the children inside without having to strain or duck or even bumping the kid’s head on the roof.

3. Seating Capacity:

The Model X has a seating capacity of seven people in the three rows. Each seat is equally good, but those present in the second row are remarkable. Each seat in the second row is mounted on the single post and reclines independently that helps to maximize the legroom, comfort, and the under seat storage. Moreover, the third row can be easily accessed as well.

When not in usage the third-row seats can be folded flat. While the second-row seats can be made to lean forward that allows for more cargo area.

4. Engine:

Two versions of Model X will be available for the consumers. One is the P90D Signature, and the other is sportier P90D Founder. The engine specifications include a 259-hp electric motor that energizes the front wheels and the 503-hp rear-mounted motor that stimulates the rear wheels to account for the all-wheel drive transmission.

The P90D Signature version has a top speed …

Which Engagement Model Is Best For Your Software Project? A Cheat Sheet

The chase towards a cost-efficient approach to software development that could benefit one’s business through the prism of cost and time rationally comes as a challenge to companies seeking to launch the desired product. Which software engagement model will make the right cut is the most concerned question businesses are facing today.

The company’s bet on choosing engagement model has multiple legs: a best fit pricing model, all goals aligned rationally, and a project that gets completed in a timely fashion which further depends on the hindsight of various factors such as company’s experience with other clients, same type of domains covered by them, the amount of time taken for project completion etc.

While these factors certainly depend on the technological aspects, complexities involved, and type of commitments with the client, the company must precisely regard these points as well. On the behalf of the type of engagement models manifested for businesses are- Time and Material, Fixed Price, and Dedicated Team Model. Here’s a detailed study of it:

1. Time and Material (T&M) Engagement Model – The T&M model works best for businesses whose requirements are unclear or are subject to be changed quite often. Here T&M model also plays a greater role when the business demands flexible and agile project execution. Well suited for medium to large projects in this model the business itself carries the related risks of scope, quality of deliverables and project management.

Here the software development company assigns a dedicated team to the customer and the actual time spent in the project development is charged. Generally the service providers are paid on account of the number of developer’s hours engaged in the project or writing the code.

Pros of Choosing Time and Material Model:

• Well adapted to changes driven project;

• Full control on what buyer wants to get done.

2. Fixed Price Model – The fixed price model is ideal for businesses whose requirements are well defined, plans are well set, and there are almost little chances of changes. The fixed price model also works wonder when buyers require quick turnaround time to project completion. Unlike time and material model, here the service provider and the customer both carry some scope-related risk. But as stated in the agreement changes to the project are subject to change in price.

Pros of Choosing Fixed Price Model:

• A defined scope and fixed budget;

• No potential disagreements;

• No inflated expenses report at the end.

3. Dedicated Team Model – Dedicated team model is a virtual extension of client’s in-house development team where the client and outsource provider mutually agree on the workload and project requirements for the specified time period and the service provider or the outsource company provides IT professionals that befit clients demands and fully focus on projects for one company at a time.

This model is well suited for long-term projects, where requirements are unclear and scope of the project keeps changing frequently.

Pros of Choosing Dedicated Team Model:

• Complete …

A Review of the Schleich Pentaceratops Dinosaur Model

Pentaceratops from Schleich Reviewed

One of the lesser known horned dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous of North America Pentaceratops ( P. sternbergi) was discovered by the famous 20th Century fossil collector and scientist CM Sternberg. The trivial name honors, Charles Mortram Sternberg, in recognition of his work on fossil vertebrates both in his native United States and in Canada, specifically the Dinosaur Provincial Park of Alberta. The honor was bestowed upon him, by a fellow American palaeontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn, who was given the responsibility of naming and describing this member of the Chasmosaurinae. It is always a pleasure to see a new type of horned dinosaur turned into a prehistoric animal replica and the Schleich Pentaceratops is an excellent figure.

Herbivore of New Mexico 70 Million Years Ago

Known from a number of skeletons including several complete or partial skulls, Pentaceratops was a spectacular looking dinosaur. It had two huge horns over its eyes and a small, stubby nose horn. Extending over the back of the neck was a high but disproportionately narrow, bony head and neck shield. The name means "five horn face", but this is misleading as Pentaceratops did not have five horns, it had three, in the same configuration as its more famous relative Triceratops. The name comes from the additional pair of large jugal processes that stick out over the dinosaur's cheeks. These are not horns as such but these bony processes would have been very prominent when the dinosaur was viewed from the front. The Schleich model reproduces the head and neck shield very accurate. The design team at the German manufacturer have obviously taken care to reproduce their model based on the known fossil material.

Striking Coloring – Scarlet Member of the Dinosauria

The paint work on the dinosaur is superb. The Pentaceratops has been painted a mottled red, almost scarlet color with patches on the back and the flanks painted a bronze hue. It is certainly a vivid and eye-catching model, one that will appeal to dinosaur fans and model collectors alike. A scarlet horned dinosaur such as this may not have been very well camouflaged but with those meter long brow horns, only a brave or very hungry tyrannosaur would have dared to have tackled it.

An Accurate Dinosaur Model

The correct number of digits can be seen on the front and hind feet, and the skin texture has been rendered extremely well. The replica is posed with one front leg raised off the ground, an interesting pose, one that distinguishes this replica from most other Ornithischian dinosaur models.

Six Meter Long Giant

Reaching lengths in excess of twenty feet (six meters), Pentaceratops was a large herbivore. A fully grown adult could have weighed as much as three tonnes. With a three meter plus skull, it rivalled the likes of Torosaurus latus and Triceratops horridus for the title of the biggest-headed terrestrial vertebrate. It is always a pleasure to see a new type of dinosaur reproduced as a dinosaur model, this …
